About this role
Lochner seeks a Senior Drainage Engineer to join its West Region Design Practice. The ideal candidate, located in Utah or Colorado, will support transportation and water infrastructure projects. This role leads drainage and hydraulic design efforts on complex projects with practical, sustainable solutions.
Lead stormwater design for bid-build and design-build projects, including roadway drainage, bridge hydraulics, and closed-system analysis. Utilize industry-standard tools such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, GEOPAK Drainage, and MicroStation ORD to develop drainage layouts and design improvements. Manage technical reports, cost estimates, and permitting coordination with regional stormwater agencies.
Act as a technical lead, training and guiding junior engineers and technicians to maintain high standards of excellence. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary support staff and reviewers to ensure projects are high-quality and delivered on schedule. Requirements
- Bachelor’s in civil or environmental engineering with 4–6 years of dedicated stormwater design experience
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah and/or Colorado or ability to obtain reciprocity within 12 months
- Proficient in MicroStation ORD and GEOPAK Drainage
- Experience with 2D modeling (SRH-2D, SMS) and ArcGIS
- Familiarity with UDOT or CDOT standards
- Familiarity with the FEMA LOMR/CLOMA processes
- Ability to distill complex engineering concepts into clear drawings, technical documents, and verbal presentations for clients and stakeholders
