About this role
Shell is seeking a Soil and Groundwater Engineer/Scientist for its SGW Solutions team. This diverse and inclusive global team delivers industry-leading soil and groundwater activities. The role reports to the Manager of Shell SGW Technical Solutions and provides technical assurance on investigations, risk assessments, and remediation by environmental consultant partners.
The position supports sites and portfolios primarily in the USA and Canada through a virtual delivery model. Deliver deep technical expertise as a SGW Subject Matter Expert across Shell businesses. Key areas include hydrogeological modeling, contaminated land management, risk assessments, and regulatory negotiations.
Provide technical assurance on third-party consultant work for sites with soil, groundwater, and surface water risks. Collaborate internally and with SGW contracting partners to optimize support. Ensure high-quality delivery of technical project elements across portfolios.
Contribute to or lead research and development initiatives for innovative contaminated land management approaches. Participate in regional regulatory advocacy to maintain Shell’s leadership in site risk assessment. Support due diligence on land acquisitions and divestments.
Requirements
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in a relevant science or engineering discipline, plus a postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Hydrogeology, contaminated Land Management, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
- At least 5 years of experience working in a contaminated land management role within industry, environmental consultancy, or a regulatory agency
- Experience with groundwater sourcing, disposal, protection issues related to oil and gas exploration, production activities, and water resource forecasting
- Demonstrated expertise in hydrogeological modelling
- Demonstrated expertise in Conceptual Site Model development
- Demonstrated expertise in tiered environmental risk assessment
- Demonstrated expertise in contaminant fate and transport evaluation and modelling
Responsibilities
- Provide deep technical expertise as a SGW Subject Matter Expert supporting Shell businesses
- Deliver technical support on hydrogeological modeling, water resource management, contaminated land management, and soil and groundwater risk management
- Provide technical assurance on third-party consultant work across portfolios of sites with contamination risks
- Contribute to or lead research and development initiatives for leading-edge contaminated land management technologies
- Participate in regional regulatory advocacy activities to maintain strategic leadership in contaminated site management
- Support due diligence on land, site, and portfolio acquisitions and divestments
- Collaborate with internal teams and Shell SGW contracting partners for optimized technical assurance
