About this role
We are currently seeking a Railroad Bridge Engineer to support a wide variety of bridge engineering assignments, including design of new railroad bridges and other railroad structures such as culverts, retaining walls, shoring, foundations, passenger platforms, overhead pedestrian bridges, unloading pits, and engine shops. The role also covers design of bridge rehabilitation projects, bridge load ratings, and construction phase engineering. This position requires attention to details and strict conformance to project quality control.
Daily activities include developing structural details and plans, performing structural analysis for bridge substructures and superstructures, and development of structural specifications. Responsibilities also involve assisting with geometric layout and quantity development. The Railroad Bridge Engineer will review plans, check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by other professional engineers and EITs.
This position requires the ability to provide practical solutions to complex problems and strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Work well with others in a collaborative environment reviewing and supporting team outputs. The engineering firm supports quality-focused projects in railroad infrastructure.
The Railroad Bridge Engineering position will require some travel across the United States with possibilities of international travel. The firm is located in Brentwood, TN but willing to consider candidates anywhere in the US to work remotely with travel happening often. This offers flexibility combined with hands-on project involvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering – Structural emphasis
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in bridge design; Railroad experience preferred
- Proficient in concrete and steel design
- Knowledge of FRA regulations, AASHTO LRFD and AREMA design codes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and Microstation
- Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software required, for example OpenBridge, RAM Elements, RAM Structural Systems, L-pile, Weap, MathCAD and Risa-3D
- Professional Engineering licensure (PE) preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Perform bridge load ratings and prepare load rating reports
- Perform structural analysis, design calculations, and prepare construction plans and details
- Perform construction phase engineering services including shop drawing reviews and responding to contractor requests for information
- Develop structural details and plans for railroad bridges and structures
- Develop structural specifications
- Assist with geometric layout and quantity development
- Review plans, check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by other professional engineers and EITs
