About this role

Responsible for oversight of the Southcentral District environmental compliance program. This includes monitoring and reporting on transportation projects conforming to air, water, hazardous waste, natural resources, wildlife, and other regulations. Coordinates environmental clearances for roadway construction, maintenance, encroachment permits, and facilities projects.

Serves as subject matter expert for interpreting environmental requirements. Reviews encroachment permit applications and oversees compliance on construction and maintenance projects. Conducts environmental site assessments and applies Best Management Practices and mitigation measures.

Consults with district leadership, project engineers, and field staff on complex environmental activities. Reviews project meetings and field reviews while managing environmental consultants. Ensures preparation and monitoring of environmental plans, permits, and notifications.

Coordinates stormwater, landscaping, and compliance reporting requirements. Serves as liaison to government agencies and the public on district programs. Inspects Right of Way for native plants and noxious weeds, preparing inventories and management plans.

Develops strategies for environmental program implementation and delivers training to staff. Represents the district on environmental committees and coordinates outreach activities. Overnight travel may be required in the course of business.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, policies and processes
  • Experience reviewing encroachment permit applications for environmental compliance
  • Ability to conduct environmental site assessments
  • Familiarity with Best Management Practices and mitigation measures
  • Knowledge of stormwater management and landscaping requirements
  • Skills in preparing environmental plans, permits, and compliance documentation
  • Ability to perform audits, inspections, and field reviews for environmental compliance
  • Experience with GIS mapping for vegetation inventories and management plans
