About this role

The Structural Engineer I position, located in headquarters office in downtown Chicago, plays a key role in supporting the planning, design, and analysis of structural systems for buildings, infrastructure, and other complex structures. Working under mentorship and guidance of senior engineers, this role provides hands-on experience across multiple phases of structural engineering projects.

Responsibilities include assisting with field inspections, collecting and analyzing data, preparing detailed reports and documentation, and contributing to design and analysis of structural systems. Support preparation of design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. Provide construction engineering support to contractors, troubleshooting issues during project execution to achieve design intent.

The Structural Engineer I collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams across the company, gaining exposure to diverse projects. Contribute to innovative solutions that enhance safety, functionality, and sustainability in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • 0-2 years of structural engineering drafting experience
  • 1 year of experience drafting with AutoCAD or Revit preferred
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain is preferred
  • Knowledge including Revit, RISA, Tedds, and ETABS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering principles and building materials

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to meet project goals
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, and technical reports
  • Review requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided
  • Review building/bridge structures and foundations for existing and proposed uses
  • Conduct site visits and assist with field inspections to verify construction compliance
  • Answer structure-related inquiries from internal and external customers
  • Keep abreast of new technical methods and developments related to structural engineering
