Environmental Engineering Intern
1w1 week agoSteel Dynamics, Inc.
US · Full-time · $24 – $30/hr
About this role
Steel Dynamics is a leading industrial metals solutions company that produces lower-carbon, high-quality steel products primarily from recycled scrap. It operates through a circular manufacturing model, serving construction, automotive, energy, and manufacturing industries. The Environmental Engineering Internship embeds interns in active manufacturing at the Engineered Bar Products Division in Pittsboro, IN, during Summer 2026.
Interns support ISO 14001 Environmental Management System by maintaining procedures for air, water, stormwater, waste, and spill prevention programs. They assist with environmental permitting, data collection for emissions and water quality, field inspections, and sampling to verify compliance. This hands-on work informs real operational and sustainability decisions.
The internship builds direct relationships with operations teams, corporate leaders, and external partners. Interns gain insight into how environmental engineering aligns with business goals and community expectations. It differs from observational programs by emphasizing active involvement in a manufacturing environment.
Mentorship and data-driven problem solving accelerate learning with visible outcomes. Interns develop a stronger professional network than typical classroom internships. Unique perks include furnished housing, 401(k) matching, and an Intern Extravaganza for networking.
