GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is offering an exciting opportunity for an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer eager to build real-world experience on large, high-impact heavy civil and infrastructure real estate/building development, and energy projects. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about hands-on fieldwork.

You’ll travel to various locations across the United States, working on diverse project sites and playing a key role in supporting construction efforts. While the position is based in our Norwood, Massachusetts office with flexibility to align with other GZA locations, much of your time will be spent in the field—gaining invaluable, boots-on-the-ground experience.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, including in marine environments, and brings a strong foundation in geotechnical engineering principles. GZA provides a small firm feel with a larger firm reputation and resources, nationally recognized for underground engineering excellence in foundations, tunnels, dams, and more.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering
  • 2+ years of relevant professional work experience
  • Master’s degree with Geotechnical concentration may substitute for up to 2 years of experience
  • Desire to obtain Master’s degree while working if not yet obtained
  • Strong foundation in geotechnical engineering principles
  • Enjoys working outdoors, including in marine environments
  • Ability to travel weekly to project sites across the United States

Responsibilities

  • Support GZA’s large infrastructure projects on work sites, requiring weekly travel with option to return home on weekends or stay near site
  • Perform field construction observation during installation of shallow and deep foundations, testing, and other construction tasks for compliance with plans and specifications
  • Execute subsurface exploration and in-situ testing programs to evaluate soil and bedrock conditions for foundation design and construction projects
  • Evaluate field data and perform engineering analyses/calculations such as slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, axial/lateral pile analyses, and earth support
  • Write field summary reports, drafts of field and engineering reports, technical specifications, and other technical documents
  • Assist with submittal reviews and requests for information during construction
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members
  • Perform work safely and follow oral and written instructions including warning signs, equipment use, and policies
